About Dr. Kin F Kam

Hello! Welcome to my little intro.

I am the inventor and founder of Inclusive Innovations Ltd. My full name is Kin Fai Kam, but most people just call me Kin.

I was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Oldham, England when I was 10. The schools I went to were Counthill Comprehesive Oldham followed by sixth form in Burnage High School in Manchester.  With the exception of the brilliant maths teachers in the latter school, I regret to report that they were pretty rough schools at that time.  Fortunately, Einstein was my childhood hero and I rather like physics too, so I was inspired to read theoretical physics at Universities.

To cut the story short,  excluding my undergraduate study, I spent about 12 years doing research in Physics, except unusually for most career scientist, I did 5 years research in Nuclear Fusion at Culham Laboratory, UKAEA, 4 years on quasi-atomic excitations  and over 2 years in applied electromagnetic at York.

Why not focus on one field?  Basically, I am a generalist, preferring to take interest in a broader range of subjects, which unfortunately was incompatible with the standard career path. So about 5 years ago, which coincided with the end of a typical short term post-doc contract, and the coincidence of the coming of a number of different inventive ideas, I decided to have a go at pursuing these ideas.

Three of these ideas are now being realised surely; the beautifully designed iiCLIP will reach the broad market  from August 2011, the proof of concept iiCAP has already successfully made it to market , and prototypes of the peripheral IV-injection aid have been created and shown to be remarkably adaptable . Other assistive technology ideas include a health related iPhone App which will be launched in Q4 2011, this together with my first (but as yet unfulfilled) big idea is under the remit of my other start-up (www.proactivecard.com) was an active smart card with purpose of reducing missed appointments in the NHS, as well as offering an alternative assistive technology product to the elderly or people with impaired memory.

Taking this innovation path, as I did has certainly not been easy, especially on my finance, but it has definitely been an exciting and creative journey which I hope will be fully justified when my inventions reach a broad audience.

Acknowledgments

I would like to give a special thanks to James Love who is one of UK’s leading IP lawyer, who was my first investor and the company’s Intellectual Property manager. Together, we have been able to build up an impressive portfolio of patent IPs. James, coindentally also took part with me as an advocate in Dragon’s Den Sport Relief where the iiCAP was brilliantly demonstrated by Jason Manford.

The launch of the iiClip has been made possible through the  design talents and entrepreneurial spirits of Manchester based Damian Vesey, Stuart Burns and Michael Hinchliffe at IPeology Ltd

I also wish to acknowledge Matthew Driver of networkchina.co.uk, who has provided very useful support and advice during the development of the iiCAP.

Finally, a big thank you for the great work of supporting organisations, such as Business Link, Science City York, Connect Yorkshire, Manchester Inventor Group, and most of all the absolutely brilliant North West Inventor Group (also known as Ideas North West).

For all the brave inventors or independent spirits out there, please enjoy this wonderful poem:

"If"  by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings—nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And—which is more—you'll be a Man my son!
